About the
Breed
Maine Coon Cats are the most amazing cats. They are extremely
intelligent, humorous and gentle creatures. We could not imagine
a life without them. In addition to their wonderfully
affectionate natures, they love to please. Many have learned to
do tricks taught to them by just plain folks! Another of their
fantastic qualities is that they come in a gorgeous array of
colors and have beautiful, flowing, low maintenance coats.

Maine Coons come in two different tabby patterns; classic tabby
and mackeral tabby. In Europe, the classic is called the
blotched tabby. The markings for the two patterns differ only on
the sides of the body. The classic tabby has bulls eyes on the
sides, a butterfly pattern that lays down across the shoulders
and three lines that run down the spine from the shoulders. The
mackeral tabby has narrow vertical stripes and one wide line
running down the spine. Any tabby colors can come in either
pattern.

The term torbie has the same meaning as patched tabby. This
color can only come on females and means that there is red plus
another tabby color such as brown, blue or silver. The solid
version is tortoiseshell and the dilute version of that is blue
cream.

Since 1986 we have bred for sweet dispositions, health and
quality. Selective breeding for these traits has made Honeycoon
Maine Coon Cats successful both in the show ring and adored as
pets. So many people come back for more after they have their
first Maine Coon from us. We raise them uncaged and handle them
every day to create the people oriented companions that we love.
They make superb house pets because they are so intelligent and
trainable.

Your kitten comes with a contract which includes a written
health guarantee. Our cats and kittens are in breeding programs
and pet homes around the world. We think our Maine Coon Cats are
the ideal pet and show cat!

History
The origin of the breed is not known with any certainty. There
are many theories and legends but the facts are that the breed
basically developed itself in the northeast section of the
country. The climate favored large, strong shaggy cats that
could withstand the harsh winters and snow. Many early cats were
brown tabbies and when seen emerging from forests, their size,
coloring and bushy tails, led to the speculation that they were
a raccoon/cat cross. Although this is a genetic impossibility,
the name was cast and it has remained the Maine Coon Cat.

They are the state cat in Maine and it was the loyalty of the
people of Maine that started the recording of the breeding and
showing them at state fairs. Eventually, Maine Coons were
accepted by all the cat associations and shown all over the
country. When the importation began of several more exotic
breeds, which became immensely popular, for a while the Maine
Coon Cat disappeared from the show ring. Fortunately they were
never less than top cat in Maine and so when their popularity
surged again, there were still pedigreed Maine Coons. Since that
time, the popularity of the Maine Coon has never wavered and has
only increased. At this point, it is the number four breed in
CFA which is the largest cat association in the U.S.
